VICTORIA - Lewis Arlyn "Coke" Schmidt went to his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008. He was born Feb. 14, 1928, in Mission Valley, to the late Elwood and Emma Heller Schmidt. He married Doris Elaine Diebel on June 30, 1948, in Meyersville. He retired from Union Carbide after 34 years of service. He enjoyed
hunting, fishing, ranching, playing dominos, and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren. He was a member of First English Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife of 60 years; daughter, Shirley VonDohlen and husband; sons, Phil Schmidt and wife Peggy,
Mark Schmidt and wife Norma; grandchildren, Troy Schmidt and wife Skandy, Shasta Vonderau and husband Trey, Ciara and Chloe Schmidt, Kristen Zapata, and Lauren Erickson; three greatgrandchildren; and sister,
Ruby Bateman and husband Joe.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Bernice Schmidt.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. today, Nov. 12, at Freund Funeral Home in Cuero. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 13 at First English Lutheran Church in Victoria. Burial services will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Victoria.
Pallbearers are Lanny Michon, Ronnie Malina, Dudley Klein, Mario Perez, Leland Truax, and Darrell Wehlmann. Arrangements are under the direction of Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.
