Obituary

Lex Allen Painter, 60, went home to be with his Lord and Savior April 13, 2013. He was surrounded by his family who loved him dearly. Lex was born November 15, 1952 in Tyler to the late Garnet and Mary Painter. Lex married Madonna Pattinson June 17, 1972 in McAllen. They were married for 40 years and 10 months at the time of his death.

Lex went to work for Southern Pacific Railroad as a breakman in 1972. He transferred to engine service in 1974 and remained a railroad engineer until August, 2012. He was employed by Union Pacific Railroad at the time of his retirement. Lex was a faithful member of the Church of Christ serving as a song leader, teacher, deacon, and elder. Lex loved singing, woodworking, and spending time with his family. Lex was diagnosed with cancer in July, 2012.

Lex leaves behind his wife, Madonna Painter, son, Christopher Painter of Round Rock; daughter, Lexanne Carroll and husband, Josh, of Yoakum; granddaughter, Maddie Colleen Carroll and grandson, Caleb Lex Carroll; sisters, Jennifer Bryan and husband, Vance, of Frisco and Dawn Bennett and husband, Gearl, of Grand Saline; brothers, Cary Painter of Whitewright, Paul Painter and wife, Marilyn, of Mesquite, and Mark Painter and wife, Lisa of Rawlett.

Lex was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be Tuesday, April 16, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at Church of Christ with Trevor Parker officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Yoakum.

Pallbearers include Richard Smith, Loyd Hempel, Everett Bludau, Kenneth Piper, Paul Painter, and Mark Painter.

The family would like to thank Dr. Jennifer Gonzales for all of the care and love that she has shown Lex for the last 7 years, especially through his battle with cancer. They would also like to thank all of the nurses at Cuero Community Hospital for the gentle care they gave Lex during his hospital stays. Lex was truly blessed.
