Louis J. Koenig, 86, of Cuero, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010. He was born Oct. 6, 1924, in Cuero, to the late Walter Koenig and Mary Koenig. He married Beryl Collin Koenig on May 29, 1949 in Rockport.
Louis served in the Pacific during WWII about the USS Hornet. He taught elementary school for 15 years and was principal of Gardens Elementary in Pasadena for 21 years. He was a longtime member of the Lions Club. He enjoyed traveling and being with family.
He is survived by his daughters, Cynthia Koenig of New Braunfels, Marilyn Bourque of Pasadena, Frances Rowan of San Antonio, and Jennifer Valero of Houston; sons, Larry Koenig of Austin, Steven Koenig of Alvin, James Koenig of Seguin, and David Koenig of Cypress; sisters, Katherine Goebel and Billie Southern, both of Cuero; 18 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today, Oct. 21, 2010, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Freund Funeral Home in Cuero.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 22, 2010, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, with Father Kirby Hlavaty officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens in Cuero.
Pallbearers are Riley Koenig, Travis Kastick, James Watkins, Bradley Koenig, David Rowan, Sebastian Valero, Austin Koenig, and Larry Koenig.
