Obituary

Lydia Garcia Garibay, 78, of Cuero, passed away Monday, January 22, 2018. She was born on February 6, 1939 in Harlingen to Maria Montalvo and Encarnation Garcia. She married the love of her life, Guadalupe (Lupe) Garibay Sr., on April 29, 1955 in Raymondsville. Lydia worked for Cuero ISD for 15 years where she enjoyed her time with the children and staff. Many people say there is nothing like a mother's love, and they are right. Our mother was a wonderful person who showed love to everyone she came in contact with. She was caring and beautiful inside and out. She loved life, her family, and her church. Our mother taught us to do the same. She raised us to be strong and resilient just like her. Some of our favorite memories of our mother are when she would be in the kitchen cooking during Holidays or in the yard pruning her trees and roses. She is survived by her loving husband; sisters, Amalia Cavazos of Mission and Rosalinda Reyes of San Jacinto; her children, Delia Gamez (Frank), Sylvia Pompa (Arturo), Virginia Salazar (Greg), Alice Hernandez (Henry), Sandra Garcia (Ernest), Julia Olguin (Mario), Eliazar "Eddy" Garibay (Shane), Elias Garibay (Josie), Ruben Garibay, Lydia "Nena" Garibay, and Joshua Garibay. 35 Grandchildren, 62 Great Grandchildren & 3 Great, Great Grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Mingo, Jacinto, Juanito, Pancho, Victor, Max; sisters, Tonia, AnaDelia , Amelia, and Concepsion; daughters, Noemi Garibay; son, Guadalupe Garibay Jr.; grandchildren, Isaac Gamez and Elias Garibay Jr.; and great grandchild, Aaliyah Olguin. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 25, 2018 at Freund Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held Friday, January 26, 2018 at The Good Shepherd Temple of Praise Church at 10 a.m. with Pastors John Carmona and David Pantoja officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery. Pallbearers are Jason Gamez, Greg Salazar, Jonathan Hernandez, EJ Garcia, Mario Olguin Jr, and Justin Garibay. Honorary pallbearers are her grandchildren.
