Obituary

Margie Ann Singletary Bell, 91, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Saturday, May 11, 2024.  She was born at home on September 8, 1932 in Alto to John Albert and Otha B. Rozelle Singletary.  Margie graduated from Alto High School and continued her education at Stephen F. Austin University earning her Bachelor's of Science in Home Economics. She was introduced to the love of her life, William T. Bell, by her future mother-in-law in Orange.  They wed on June 23, 1954.

Margie had a long career of teaching high school Home Economics at both Cuero ISD and Fort Bend ISD, and retired after 32 years of service. She loved to play bridge, travel, host parties and was known for her culinary skills.  She was a member of The First Presbyterian Church of Cuero, the DeWitt County Wildflower Association, the Cuero Hospital Auxiliary, DeWitt Historical Commission, Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the American Colonist and Colonial Dames.

Margie is survived by her son, John Bell (Suzanne); daughter, Katy Nagel (Jeff); grandchildren, Will Nagel (Nora), Molly Warner (Troy), Jenny Koski (Conrad), Steven Bell (Kaylee), and Patrick Bell (Bryanne); and 15 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Mary Beth Held; and great-granddaughter, Eleanor Bell.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 15, 2024 from 5 to 7 pm at Freund Funeral Home.  A service will be held Thursday, May 16, 2024, 11 am, at First Presbyterian Church in Cuero with Pastor Kevin Boyd officiating.

Pallbearers will be her five grandsons and great nephew Matt Held.

Memorials may be given to First Presbyterian Church, Hospice of South Texas or the charity of your choice.
