Maria "Nellie" Gonzales Muniz, 69, of Schulenburg went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 19, 2018.  She was born August 7, 1949 in Cuero to the late Andres and Margaret Garcia.  Maria was a homemaker and a dietary cook and baker for Cuero Community Hospital.  She also had a passion for working with individuals with special needs and enjoyed serving at Bluebonnet Trails.  She was a caring mother to everyone and a loving grandmother.  Maria loved spending time with her family and friends and enjoyed dancing and cooking.

She is survived by her husband, Guadalupe Ornelas of Schulenberg; daughter, Casey Muniz of Schulenberg; son, Carl (Veronica) Anzaldua, of La Grange; sisters, Josie (Daniel) Saldaña and Dolores Garcia; brothers, Roy (Janie) Garcia, Anthony (Martha) Garcia, Michael (Shirley) Garcia, Andy Garcia, Manuel Garcia, David (Kim) Garcia, and Rudy Garcia; grandchildren, Anthony and Eliana Anzaldua, Alexis Gardner, Leah Muniz, and Nevaeh Muniz; and great-grandchildren, Layla and Adonis Thomas.

Maria was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Margaret Garcia; and brother, Albert Garcia.

Visitation will begin at 10 am on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at Freund Funeral Home.  A funeral service will follow at 11 am with Pastor Dan Cancino officiating.
