IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Maria Guadalupe
Trevino "Lupita"
January 4, 1938 – March 1, 2022
Maria Guadalupe Trevino "Lupita", 84 of Cuero, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on Tuesday, March 1, 2022. She is preceded in death by her parents, Gregorio and Esperanza Barrera; her husband, Rogelio Trevino Sr.; daughter, Genoveva Nava; son-in-law, Fernando Gonzalez; two grandchildren, John Villa and Francisca Villa; two great-grandchildren, Abriel Price and Peyton Light; sister, Teresa Barrera and brother, Jesus Barrera.
Lupita was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her passions were reading and cooking for her family. She was a beautiful soul with a quick smile and loving and accepting heart. She made everyone feel special, and no matter the time, if you dropped by to visit, she was ready to prepare you a feast. She was an excellent cook and the family culinary favorites were her tamales , mole , pan de polvo and empanada s.
She met the love of her life, Rogelio Trevino, Sr. when they both worked at Chapman Ranch near Corpus Christi. They had seven children and for a brief period, she and her husband raised their family on the King Ranch where she was a traditional Vaqueros wife. Shortly after leaving the King Ranch, Lupita and her husband ran a turkey farm in South Texas. Their strong work ethic and excellent management skills did not escape the attention of Gus Cage of Cuero who offered them an opportunity to manage a turkey farm he owned in DeWitt County. Lupita was very involved in running the farm. Together, they ran the turkey farm from 1968 to about 1973. They later moved into the city limits of Cuero where Lupita devoted much of her time to raising her family and helping raise her grandchildren.
Lupita is survived by her children, Rogelio Trevino Jr. (Dora) of Edinburg, Ludivina Gonzalez of Cuero, Jose Luis Trevino (Patricia) of Cuero, Elizabeth Hernandez (Efrain) of San Antonio, Anna Sanchez (Gilbert) of Rosenberg and Veronica McCord (Dion McGaughy) of Cuero; two brothers, Gregorio Barrera and Monico Barrera; twenty-three grandchildren; fifty-two great-grandchildren and thirteen great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers include Roy Trevino, Brigido Gonzalez, Kristina Trevino, Dion McGaughy, Luis Turcios, and Christopher Ybarra.
