Marion Ruth Eichenlaub Lane Riedesel died peacefully at her home June 22, 2009. She was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Zena Eichenlaub, her brother George Eichenlaub, and her husbands Fritz Lane and Richard Riedesel. She is survived by her son Bobby Lane and wife Fern of Cuero, daughters Tinker Cox of Delaware, Barbara and husband Robert Glodt of Plainview and Cynthia Felknor of Cuero. Grandchildren include Kim and husband Clay Modisette of Victoria, Ingra and husband Trey Sparkman of Victoria, Jennifer and husband A. J. Sturm of San Antonio, Missy and husband Robert Caskey of Cuero, Tyler Glodt and Travis Glodt of Los Angeles, Amanda Lane of Cuero, Misti and husband Brent Janak of Houston, Dallas Dean and Leigh Ann Dean of Corpus Christi, Lacy Lane of Cuero, and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was born September 16, 1917 in St. Paul, Minnesota. After graduating from Macalester College in St. Paul she served in the Women's Army Corp where she met and married Harold Nichols (Fritz) Lane. She finished her Masters in English at Sul Ross University. She taught in public schools in Minnesota, Nevada, Alaska, and in various Texas schools including 19 years in Cuero. After retiring she lived in Belize, Mexico, Stillwater, Minnesota, and Cuero. She was active in community organizations including University Club, Hawthorne Club, Dewitt County Historical Society, Music Lovers Club, Garden Club and Cuero Hospital Auxiliary. She taught Sunday School at 1st Presbyterian Church in Cuero and was later a member of Grace Episcopal Church. Marion was blessed with a sunny disposition, a quick mind, and a love for the English language. Her life enriched the lives of her friends, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Thursday, June 25, 2009 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will be held Friday, June 26, 2009, 10 a.m., at Freund Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Brick Hodge officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bucky Sager, Smokey Wilson, Robert Dutton Lane, Fred Zentner, David Henry and Tyler Glodt.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dutton Lane and Charlie Cusack.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Cuero Public Library or Cuero Hospital Auxiliary.
