Martin T. Torres Sr.

November 11, 1936 — June 10, 2026

Cuero

Our beloved Dad, Grandpa, and friend, Martin Torres Sr., passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family as he went to meet his beautiful wife, Helen, his son, Marty, and his beloved mother, Carolina, at Heaven's gate.

He was born on November 11, 1936, in Gonzales County to Guadalupe and Carolina Trevino Torres. Martin proudly served in the United States Navy from 1955 - 1959. He retired from the State of Texas Highways and Public Transportation after 35 plus years of dedicated employment. Martin was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and faithfully served as a teacher for C.C.D. classes. If you ever had the pleasure of knowing Martin, you knew he had a charm like no other and loved like no other. He was everyone's Dad and Grandpa, always ready with a kind word, a warm smile, and a caring heart. His love for family, friends, and community touched countless lives throughout the years. Martin dedicated much of his life to serving others. He proudly volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America and, alongside his beloved wife Helen, opened both their home and hearts to others. Together, they hosted an exchange student from New Zealand, creating a lifelong bond and extending their family across the world. Martin also owned and operated Busy Bee Day Care with his late wife Molly, helping nurture and care for generations of children. Family was everything to Martin. He enjoyed life's simple pleasures—spending time on his porch, watching nature, sharing stories, and enjoying a smoke with his two favorite fur-grandchildren, Chato and Baby Girl, as well as caring for his beloved neighborhood feline friends. His presence brought comfort, laughter, and love to all who gathered around him. Martin fought a long and courageous battle with strength, dignity, and determination. Through it all, he remained devoted to those he loved most. He leaves behind an incredible legacy through his Torres family, and his love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. We find comfort in knowing he is reunited with those he loved and who went before him. While our hearts are heavy, we are grateful for the many memories, lessons, laughter, and love he shared throughout his life. We ask that you keep his family and friends in your prayers during this difficult time, especially his daughter, Gloria, and his son-in-law, Benny, who selflessly cared for him with unwavering love, compassion, and devotion for many years. Their dedication allowed him to remain surrounded by the family he cherished so deeply. Though he may be gone from our sight, he will never be gone from our hearts. His legacy lives on through the family he loved, the lives he touched, and the countless memories he leaves behind. Rest in peace, Dad and Grandpa. You will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

Martin is survived his daughter, Gloria Garza (Benny); daughter-in-law, Esther Torres; brother, Guadalupe Torres Jr. (Mary Alice); grandchildren, Crystal Ybarra (Chuy), Lindsay Torres-Smith (Robert), Raymond Ybarra Jr. (Maddie), and Patricia Torres-Ortega (Tony); great-grandchildren, Xavier Ordonez (Nicole), Davion Ordonez (Kimberly), Landon Ordonez, Haven Ybarra, Rage Ybarra, Anthony Ortega, Victoria Ortega, and Jayde Ybarra; great-great-grandchild, Mia Ordonez and his companion, Rosa Gonzales.
