Mary Ann DuBose Benbow, 98, of Cuero passed away Monday, June 4, 2012. She was born October 5, 1913 in Victoria to the late Samuel and Dicy Ann Parker DuBose. She married Lee Benbow on March 29, 1930 in Yoakum.
Mrs. Benbow was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister-in-law and friend. She taught Sunday school at First Baptist Church for many years and was also a bible student. She and her husband, Lee, loved to play dominoes and sometimes multiple times per week. They loved to dance and belonged to a dance club. She was in the Cuero Garden Club for many years and was president for most of those years. They loved to travel with friends and had many great memories. She was in a sewing club in Cuero with many friends. She was a co-leader in Blue Birds and Campfire Girls when Jo Ann was little. She started out chopping cotton alongside the men and was eventually able to enjoy an easier country life. She gardened and went shopping into her nineties.
She is survived by her daughter, Jo Ann Talbert and husband, Howard, of Cuero; grandchildren, Clay Thomas and wife, Danna, of Cedar Park, Le Ann Wolff and husband, Matt, of Gonzales, and Joshua Talbert and wife, Janelle, of Lufkin; and great-grandchildren, Makenzie Ann Thomas, Storie Still, Bre Ann Wolff, Corben Wolff, Connor Talbert and Will Talbert.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 66 years, Lee Benbow; sister, Suda Farmer; and brothers, Farris DuBose and Edwin Jennings.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 7, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. Services will be held Friday, June 8, 2012, 10 a.m., at Freund Funeral Home with Elder Bill Walden and Dr. Glenn Robertson officiating. Interment will follow at Alexander Cemetery.
Pallbearers include Kenneth Barron, Shelby Benbow, Troy Benbow, Curtis Boothe, George Walker Benbow, and J. G. Hunnam.
Honorary pallbearers include Bill Barron, David Benbow, David Newman, Samuel Bridge, Freddie Fischer, and Basil Sherman.
Special thanks to her loving caretakers, Vance Heaselet, Sally Baker, and Leticia Veliz. She spent her final months at Cuero Nursing and Rehab where she entertained the staff with her stories and jokes.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association or First Baptist Church of Cuero.
