Obituary

Mary E. Kremling Laake, 94, of Cuero passed away August 29, 2012 at Parkview Manor in Weimar at 11:10 AM. Mary was born to Adolph and Emilie Kremling of Hallettsville, January 19, 1918. She married Moritz E. Laake on October 25, 1938 in Hallettsville and followed him to Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio where he was serving in the U.S. Army. Later they moved to Yoakum and lived there until 1956 when they moved to Cuero with their four children. Mary was a homemaker and member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters, and also worked at Tex Tan until she retired to take care of her husband. She loved taking care of her yard and her flowers when she wasn't baking cookies, pies, and cakes that she shared with everyone.

She is survived by daughter, Dottie and husband, Michael Light, of Houston and Barbara Sims-Shaver of Houston; sons, Dennis and wife, Betty, of Weimar, and Dell and wife, Beatrice, of Thomaston. Also surviving Mary were her nine grandchildren; Morgan and wife, Sharon Goebel, Randal and wife, Lana Goebel, Lee Allen Goebel, Jeff and wife, Audra Sims, Forrest and wife, Ginger Sims, Jennifer and husband, Warren Buchhorn, Brian Laake, Christopher and wife, Summer Laake, and James Laake. She is also survived by seventeen grandchildren; Emily and husband, Brandon Henderson, Brandon, Logan, Morgan Makenzie Goebel; Carly and Matthew Sims; Bryson, Madison, Colson, Ellison, Dalson Goebel; Molly Sue, Mallory Jean Sims; Tyler and Amber Buchhorn, and Brynnley Laake.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings; Louise and husband, Fritz Zikhur, Paul and wife, Matilda Kremling, Annie and husband, Herbert Laake, Elo and wife, Lilly Kremling, Ben Kremling and wife, Annie, and Johnny Kremling (her infant brother).

Visitation will be held Friday, August 31, 2012 from 6-8 pm, with a Rosary at 7 pm, at Freund Funeral Home. Services will be held Saturday, September 1, 2012 at 10:00 am at St. Michaels Catholic Church with Father David Berger officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.

Pallbearers include Jeff Sims, Forrest Sims, Lee Goebel, Morgan Goebel, Brian Laake, and Christopher Laake.

Honorary pallbearers include Randal Goebel, Christopher Laake, James Laake and Jennifer Buchhorn.

Memorials may be made to St. Michael's Catholic Church.

After the funeral at Hillside, friends and family are invited to the St. Michael's reception hall for food and refreshments provided by St. Michael's Catholic Daughters. We would like to say a special thanks to Hospice of South Texas and Parkview Manor for such wonderful care.
