Mary Frances Wood, age 85, was called home to be with the Lord on January 22, 2024. She was born February 24, 1938 in Nowata, OK to Cloyd Raymond and Ruby Marie Hessong.

Mary was a graduate of Banquete High School, Texas A&I University, and University of Houston, Victoria.

She taught school for 30 years before retiring in 1995. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Cuero for 50 years. She was founding president of DWCRSP, a branch of Retired Teachers Association; a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority; DeWitt County Shutterbugs and DeWitt County Wildflower Association.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Richard and Earl Hessong; sisters-in-law, Elena Wood and Suzie Hessong and brother-in-law Curtis Cates.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Bob Wood; her daughter, Robin Wood (Scott Wade); son, Robert Wood (Wendy); grandchildren, Benjamin Wood (Shenell), Marley Wade and Rachel Miller (Robert); sister, Marilyn Cates and sister-in-law Ann Hessong.

Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church of Cuero on Friday, January 26, 2024 from 10-11am, followed by the funeral service at 11am officiated by Dr. Glenn Robertson. A private burial will be held at Glendale Cemetery in Goliad.
