December 13, 1935 – February 1, 2021
Retired M/Sgt. Jose Tijerina, 85 of Cuero passed away on February 1, 2021 after a lengthy illness. He was born on December 13, 1935 in Cuero to the late Teofilo and Sarah Tijerina.
He attended Cuero High School and worked at "The Fair". At the age of 19, he married Elenora Buenteo on September 15, 1955 at St. Cyril and Methodius Church in Shiner. He then joined the United States Air Force to serve his country for twenty six years and is a Vietnam Veteran.
Jose was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post #3972 and a member of the Golf association.
Retirement brought the family back to Cuero after twenty six years where he was then employed by Timco, City of Cuero and H&H Door Company of Victoria. After retiring again, he could be found at the golf course doing what he loved, playing golf and being with his friends. He also enjoyed fishing and watching the Dallas Cowboys .
He is survived by his wife of sixty five years, Elenora (Sita); daughter, Viviana (Roy) of San Antonio; son, Rico Tijerina of Cuero; grandson, Jason Varela of San Antonio; brother-in-law, Raymond Buenteo of Houston; sister-in-law, Gloria Sims of Shiner and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Lydia Buenteo.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2021, 9am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with a rosary to begin at 9:30 am. Mass will begin at 10 am with Father Jasper Liggio officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery. Social Distancing and mask wearing is mandatory. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, there will not be a family gathering after the service.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church or donor's choice.
