Obituary

Ola Lee Fehner of Cuero met her Savior on Tuesday, August 4, 2020, at the age of 86. She was born on September 1, 1933, in Brownwood, Texas to the late John Oury Hector and Iola Gatliff Hector. She was raised in Bell County and enjoyed growing up in a large loving family. She married Sterling A. Fehner at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lindenau, Texas on March 23, 1948. She and Sterling lived in Lindenau during their early married years working at the family grocery store and cotton gin. Later, they moved to Cuero where they raised their two children. She and her family were members of the Lutheran church.

Our mom enjoyed her many friends she had at Cuero Nursing and Rehab where she resided for about three years. Prior to going to the nursing home, she enjoyed working at the Cuero High School cafeteria for over 20 years and managing the John C. French cafeteria where she thoroughly enjoyed feeding the small children. She retired from the cafeteria to care for her two grandchildren while her daughter taught school. She enjoyed seeing them grow into adulthood. In her pastime, she loved sewing, working in her yard, cooking, and going to country music shows with her good longtime friend, Elizabeth Loos. She also loved traveling outside of Texas with her husband and children. They traveled many times to Arizona and also to Yellowstone, Idaho, Utah, Las Vegas, and California.

After her husband's passing, she joined her daughter's family on trips to North Carolina, Disney World, Kentucky, Tennessee and Colorado. She also loved traveling to Washington DC with her daughter on her grandchildren's eighth grade St. Michael's School trips. She also loved seeing the Gobbler football games especially during the early 1970's when her son-in-law was coaching. Her top priority in her life was visiting with her family and friends. Her pride and joy was getting to see her great grandson, Hayes Carter Lindsey, born last year. Mom's first question when she saw her daughter was always, "How is Hayes doing?"

Mom loved her early morning coffee with her friends, eating out and riding around seeing the countryside with her daughter and son-in-law. She enjoyed playing dominoes and bingo with her Senior Sunbeam Club. Mom loved to talk and she never met a stranger. She enjoyed the festivals at St. Michael's Church and watching her grandchildren in the Christmas plays when they were young. And, on Saturday nights, she enjoyed watching "The Lawrence Welk Show."

She is survived by her children, Kathy Bowers (Art) of Cuero; son, Ray Fehner of San Antonio, and grandchildren Craig Bowers of Lake Jackson, TX and Kristine Lindsey (David) of Cypress, TX and her great grandson, Hayes Carter Lindsey. She is also survived by a sister Marolyne Finto (Thomas) of Huntsville, TX and a brother, John Junior Hector, (Debbie) of Esperia, CA. In addition, she is survived by a brother-in-law, Leland Coake of Henderson, NV and aunts, Eva Gilchrist of Denver, CO and Alice Pearl Carlson (Rex) of Provo, UT. She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. She was dearly loved and will be missed by all of us.

Preceding mom in death were her parents, husband, Sterling, sisters Agnes Coake, Carolyn Hector, Johnnie Joe Macek and brothers Buddy Troy Hector and Monty Oury Hector.

Pallbearers will be Craig Bowers, David Lindsey, Ruben Cantu, Roy Wayne Schlickheisen, Brady Bowers, and Cody Bowers.

Visitation will begin at 10 am, on Saturday, August 8, at Freund Funeral Home with funeral services following at 11 am at the funeral home with Deacon Leo Sharron presiding. Covid protocol will be followed as far as social distancing and wearing of masks.

Donations may be given to St. Michael's Catholic School Endowment Fund, Lindenau Community Cemetery Association or donor's choice.

The family would like to thank the nurses, CNA's, and office staff at Cuero Nursing & Rehab for all their care and help in taking care of our mother as well as Dr Hill & Dr. Heard. We also thank the ICU staff and the second floor nurses who took care of mom during her recent stay at Cuero Regional Hospital. Thank you Hospice of South Texas and Deacon Leo Sharron of Hospice for his visit with mom, his prayers and his comforting words for our family.
