Oscar A. Wolter, Sr., 89, of Cuero passed away Wednesday, May 04, 2011. He was born August 22, 1921 in Lindenau to the late Fred and Annie Meyer Wolter. Oscar married Willa Dean Hilbrich on June 19, 1970 in Cuero at the DeWitt County Courthouse. He served in the United States Army Corps of Engineers, as well as the Army Air Corps. After retiring from DeWitt County Road Construction, Oscar devoted his time to ranching. He was a life member of the American Legion, the VFW, TPA, and St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years; daughters, Lanette Gips and husband, Ottie, of Cuero and Bonnie Burton of Victoria; and sons, Ronnie Wolter and wife, Lisa, of Victoria, Oscar Wolter Jr. and wife, JoAnn, of Victoria, Randy Wolter and wife, Rebecca, of Cuero, and Denis Mueller and wife, Sheryl, of Cuero. Oscar was blessed with 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Viola Ludeke and Alma Schmidt; brothers, Ernest Wolter, Jr., Fred Wolter, and Martin Wolter; and grandson, Andrew J. Creighton.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 5, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. Services will be held Friday, May 6, 2011, 2:30 p.m., at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Cuero with Pastor Karl Biermann officiating. Interment will follow at Lindenau Community Cemetery.
Pallbearers include Malcolm Wolter, Jason Wolter, Beverly Burton, JP Gips, Matt Gips, Kyle Mueller, Jimmy Wolter, and Sonny Wolter.
Honorary pallbearers include Clay Wolter and the Dairy Queen Coffee Drinkers.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Cuero or to a charity of choice.
