Rex Blane "Dutch" Schorre, 64, of Cuero, Texas, passed away Sunday, September 11, 2016 at his residence. Rex was born to Elwyn F. and Charlotte Anne Schorre in the Burns Memorial Hospital in Cuero, Texas. He graduated from Cuero High School in 1970. During his high school years, he was a member of the Cuero High School Band playing the clarinet and the bass clarinet. It was during this time he received his nickname and CB handle of "Dutch." During the Vietnam Conflict, Rex enlisted in and was honorably discharged from the National Guard. In 1977 "Dutch" began his career as a fireman for the City of Cuero from which he retired in 2003

Over his 64 year life, Rex was known for his love of Polka music and his German heritage. As a young boy, Rex took up playing the accordion and up until his death, he could be found playing his squeeze box at town festivals all over Texas as a member of the Shiner Hobo Band or sitting in his swing on his front lawn serenading the neighbors. He was well known within the Texas Polka community. For 15 years, he hosted "Dutch's Polka Parade" on Saturday mornings on Cuero's local radio station KQRO and later through the Hallettsville radio station Texas Thunder Radio. Any time he attended dances or festivals, he always packed his accordion just in case he was asked to play and sing along with the band. When not playing his squeeze box, he could be found hanging out at local restaurants drinking tea or telling stories about "the good old days."

Rex had three children, Joe Daniel Schorre (Joanna) of Bryan, Frances Ann Schorre (deceased), and Miranda Lynn Schorre of New Braunfels. He was known as "Grospapa" to his 5 grandchildren, Angela Nicole Schorre, Gavin William Schorre, Faith Lynn Mendez, Joshua Jaden Schorre and Lela.

Rex is survived by his ex wife Libby Williams and ex wife Peggy Lynn Schorre of Nursery, brothers Jeff Schorre (Karyen) of Cuero, Steven Kent Schorre of Palestine, David Brent Schorre of Beeville, cousin Michelle (Charlie) Schlinke and step-brother and sisters Jan (Allan) Reagan of Leander, Pam (Terry) Haun of Meyersville, Valerie (Clay) Whites of Ingleside on the Bay, Mike (Mary Ann) Stubbs of Cuero along with many nieces and nephews.

Rex was preceded in death by his father, Elwyn Farris Schorre, mother Charlotte Ann Schorre, step mother Shirley Anne Stevens Schorre & daughter Frances Ann Schorre.

A family visitation will be held Friday, September 16, 2016 at Freund Funeral Home in Cuero, from 4-6 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 10 a.m. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Cuero, where he was a lifelong member with Pastor Sharon Wiggins officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the St. Mark's Lutheran Church "Acts 6" fund or the Cuero Volunteer Fire Department.
