Obituary

Richard Allen "Dickie" Goebel, 71, of Cuero passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, December 23, 2024.  He was born December 20, 1953 in Cuero to Victor and Earlien Rabke Goebel.  He married Rhonda Doehrman at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Meyersville on December 3, 1983.

Dickie attended elementary school at Arneckeville and Meyersville Schools.  He   attended Cuero High School where he served as FFA president and was named the Star Chapter Farmer.  He became a proud Gobbler fan and Booster Club member, being a Gobbler football season ticket holder for 53 years.

After graduation, Dickie had a 42 year career working for DeWitt County Producers Co-op.  His love for Agriculture carried over into his life as he worked and owned Goebel Hog Farm with his family for over 10 years.  During this time Dickie was active in Texas Pork Producers Assoc, Post Oak Livestock Assoc, and helped start the Coastal Bend Pork Producers in DeWitt County.  He was awarded the 2018 Agriculture Achievement award for the Cuero Chamber of Commerce.

He had a tremendous love for sports with the Houston Astros, Cuero Gobblers, and Texas State Bobcats being his favorite teams.  When his kids played sports, Dickie became active in their endeavors.  He was a Cuero Little League coach for many years.  He helped start the Cuero Baseball Association for Teens, which refurbished the city ball field.  You could find Dickie getting the field ready for play or setting up the concession stand as well as announcing games for his beloved Gobblers.

God and family were very important to Dickie.  He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Meyersville and the KC's council, too.

For the past 4 years, Dickie took up gardening in grand style.  His Goebel's Garden marketed produce at the Cuero Downtown Market where Dickie enjoyed visiting with the patrons and sharing gardening tips.  Being in his garden and tending his cattle along with his four wonderful grandchildren were the happiest times for Dickie.

Richard, Dickie, Dad, Pops, will be remembered for his giant stature and his giant smile that went with it.

He is survived by his loving wife of forty-one years, Rhonda; daughter, Reanne Webster (Alex); sons, Russell Goebel (Sarah) and Ross Goebel (Alyssa); brothers, Robert Goebel, Arlen Goebel and James Goebel; grandchildren, Abigail Goebel, Caroline Webster, Adalynn Webster and Brooks Goebel as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Ryan Matthew Goebel and sister, Janice G. Harper.
