Obituary

Robert "Bob" Walter McCurdy, age 62, passed away on August 21st.
Bob was born on January 20, 1950 in Kansas City, Missouri and adopted by James Sumners and Virginia Rich McCurdy of Cuero. He was married to Mary Frances Peyton of Cuero on January 6, 1973.

He is survived by his wife; son, Matthew Pierce McCurdy of Pratt, Kansas; daughter, Mary Katherine Hancock and husband Jamie of Cuero, and grandson Warner Pierce Hancock; brother, John R. McCurdy and wife Corinne of Fort Worth and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Bob was raised in Cuero, graduated from Cuero High School in 1968 and also attended Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos. He was a lifelong rancher in Dewitt County.

He served as president of the DeWitt Gonzales River Association and was also instrumental in founding the Pecan Valley Groundwater District in Cuero. He served along with his wife on the bereavement committee at St. Michael's Catholic Church.

A visitation will be held 6-8 pm on Thursday, August 23rd at Freund Funeral Home in Cuero. Friends and family are invited to attend a graveside service in the family cemetery on McCurdy Ranch Friday, August 24th at 10 am. The service will be officiated by Father David Berger of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Cuero.

Serving as pall bearers will be Dennis Nagel, Jimmy Mayer, Blake Dunn, Bill Braden, Keith Samples, and Jimmy White. Honorary pall bearers are Billy Nami, Errol John Dietze, Bob Leske, Billy Carnes, Glenn Ruschhaupt, Lanny Havemann, and Charles Hartman (in spirit).

Donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Cuero, St. Michael's Catholic Church Bereavement Committee, Hospice of South Texas or DeWitt Medical Foundation-Chapel Fund.
