Ruth Campbell Smith, 56, of Cuero passed away Saturday, January 16, 2010. She was born May 1, 1953 in Yorktown to the late Dorothy Lee James Campbell and Claude Campbell Sr.

She confessed her belief and was baptized at an early age at Rising Star Baptist Church in Yorktown. Ruth was a humble and faithful worker for the Lord. She was a faithful dietary aide at Whispering Oaks Manor for more than 30 years and at Cuero Nursing Home.

Ruth was united in holy matrimony to the late Deacon Darnell Smith (Smitty) Smith on March 15, 1975. No children born to this union. She leaves to cherish her memories a step-daughter, Revonna (Cookie) King of Houston; step-sons, Darnell Smith Jr. of Seattle, Washington and Cedric Smith of Houston; step-granddaughter; great-granddaughter; special friends, Marjorie King and Lydia Martinez; sister, Gloria B. Baldwin of Portland, Texas; Claude Campbell Jr. of Yorktown; Janet Campbell of Yorktown; Lucille Campbell of Yorktown; Alice C. Rogers (Henry) of Yorktown; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be held Wednesday, January 20, 2010, 2 p.m., at Rising Star Baptist Church in Yorktown. Interment will immediately follow at Yorktown Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Shamar Nations, James Earl Campbell, Henry Rogers, Johnny Smith, Kaiyne Salazar, Alex James Campbell, Darnell James Williams, and Dillion Mungia.

In lieu of flowers, donations are being accepted to defray funeral expenses.
