Obituary

Sis Ruthie Ledet was born on May 18, 1949 in Yoakum to her parents, Mr. Leslie and Irene Taylor, and went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 5, 2018. She attended Daule Elementary School then graduated from Cuero High School in 1967. She married Lonnie Douglas and two children were born to this union, Aretha R. Douglas and Trichinia U. Douglas. After finishing high school, Ruthie went into nursing school at Huth Memorial Hospital. After graduation she worked at Burns Hospital then Cuero Community Hospital for 15 years. She also worked for Retama Manor and Retama West Nursing Home. Later she moved to Houston and worked at Methodist Memorial Hospital, the VA Hospital, Courtyard Nursing, and private duty for Hospice. She retired from Harris County Hospital District. She accepted Christ at an early age under the late Rev. Bedford. Then she attended Macedonia Baptist Church under Rev. Smith and attended Holy Ghost Temple Church for many years under Pastor Vera Mae Hill. Later she moved to Houston and attended Christian Life under Pastor Hillard . Then she moved Cuero to take care of her daddy who was ill. She started attending Trinity Church under Pastor Jeanine Coppedge . She married Troy Battles for 33 years and later divorced. Then she married Joseph P. Ledet on June 22, 2017.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Leslie Taylor Sr and Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Vollie Wilson; grandmother, Mrs. Beatrice Williams Brown; aunt, Mrs. Leona Edwards; and special cousin, Mrs. Mercile Harvey.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Joseph Ledet ; daughters, Aretha (Kevin) Clack of Houston, Trichinia (Joseph) Austin of Cuero, and Denise Jones of Houston; sisters, Joyce (Frank) Marsh of San Jose, CA and Vollie (Leslie) Griffin of Cuero; brothers, Anthony McFay , Ronald (Elizabeth) Taylor, and Leslie (Jennie) Taylor Jr.; stepmother, Mrs. Leanne Taylor; and grandchildren, Michael ( Jenn ) Shippard , Ashley Drake, Jasmine (Andrew) Luckett , Courtney Hinojosa , Bradley Austin, Terri (Lawrence) Pearson, and Lester Denby . She had seven great-grandchildren and raised two daughters for a while, LaTonya Shields and Ava Nell Purnell . She is also survived by stepchildren, Jennifer (Kory) Melacin , Juenice (Shelly) Lewis, Marcy Lewis, and Ken Denby ; seven step-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and special friends, Mrs. Annie Henderson, Mrs. Nancy Battles, Mrs. Rosemary Battles, and Mrs. Laura Johnson; and special ex-sister-in-law, Mrs. Pearlene Burton. Linda James was a special cousin but more like a sister. Shirley Lewis was like a sister. Daddy Ed was a special dad who raised, clothed, fed, and made sure she had everything during her childhood. Even when she was married he sent her to nursing school.

Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Trinity Church. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Jeanine Coppedge officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
