Santos Maria Barbontin, 79, of Cuero, passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2018. She was born November 1, 1938 to the late Apalonio and Sara Pineda Ruiz in Cuero. She married the love of her life, Nazario Barbontin Jr., in Cuero. Santos's greatest joy was taking care of her family. She was a mother, "Big-grandma", and a woman full of love to give to all. She had a heart of gold. Santos is survived by her daughters, Ramona Arzate, Elisa Gutierrez, Rose Mary Miller, Eva Squyres, Maria Garcia, all of Cuero; sons, John Barbontin Sr., Joe Barbontin Sr., Michael Barbontin Sr., Adam Barbontin Sr., Jesse Barbontin, all of Cuero, Frank Barbontin, and Paul Barbontin Sr. , both of Victoria; brother, Robert Ruiz of Cuero; and fifty grandchildren, one hundred and one great grandchildren, thirteen great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband; sons, Ricky Barbontin, Pete Barbontin, Nazario Barbontin lll, Augustine Barbontin; sister, Commeracion Salas; and brothers, Eliceo Ruiz, Domingo Ruiz Sr., Jesse Ruiz Sr., Joe Ruiz. The visitation will be held Friday, February 9, 2018 from 6 to 8 p.m. with the Rosary being prayed at 7p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 12 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe with Father Jasper Liggio officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Roy Barbontin, Frank Aaron Barbontin, Pete Barbontin, Michael Barbontin Jr., Augustine Barbontin, Frankie Hernandez Jr., Joe Barbontin Jr., and David Arzate. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
