CUERO - Sheila R. Richards passed away Friday, Oct. 24, 2008. She was born in Sale, Manchester, England on Sept. 19, 1919 to James Smith Reynolds and Alice Wilson Dutton Reynolds. Sheila loved gardening, painting, playing poker with "the girls" every Monday night, and golfing in her youth. She was a loyal Episcopalian and served as a vestry member, junior warden, 50-year Altar Guild member and chairman of the Altar Guild several times. She was chairman of the Lenten Luncheons for three years and was a member of the Diocesan Altar Guild and chairman in the 1950's. She served on the Board of Directors of the Cuero Country Club and the Heritage Museum and was a member of the Cuero Art Guild. Whether it was doing the Charleston at the Turkey Trot Coronation or helping start the first cafeteria in the Cuero schools, Sheila was always a willing volunteer.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, John Carver Richards, and two grandchildren, Sara Clare Tiertz and John Paul Richards.
She is survived by her three children: Merilyn Weber and husband Mike, Carver Richards and wife Carol Ann, all of Cuero, and Sissy Tietz and husband Ronnie of San Antonio; and a brother, James Theodore Reynolds of Alvin. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Kathy Weber Wilson and husband Kerry of Waxahachie, Cliff Weber and wife Sharon, Richard Weber and wife Holly, all of Cuero, Susan Tietz Gammage and husband John of Austin, Jennifer Tietz Gwinn and husband Mark of Bastrop, and Bill Richards of Anchorage, Alaska. "Mimi" will be missed by 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. today at Freund Funeral Home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Grace Episcopal Church with the Rev. John Padgett officiating. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery. Pallbearers are Cliff Weber, Richard Weber, Bill Richards, Mark Gwin, John Gammage, Kerry Wilson, Bill Blackwell, John Wofford, David Senn, and Frank Henderson. Memorials may be sent to Grace Episcopal Church, 102 E. Live Oak Street, Cuero.
