Mrs. Sylvia Ruiz Mejia, 75, of Cuero passed away Friday, December 11, 2020.  She was born May 12, 1945 in Robstown to the late Pilar Ruiz Sr. and Maria Sulema Hernandez Ruiz.  Sylvia married Hilario Mejia on April 3, 1993 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Cuero.  She was a certified medical aide for over 35 years and a devoted mother, grandmother, and aunt.  Sylvia loved sewing and crocheting and took pride in teaching these hobbies to her granddaughters.

Sylvia is survived by her sons, Ricardo Pena and wife, Patsy, of Corpus Christi, Bobby Cardona of Houston, Julian Isaiah Recio of Cuero; daughters, Linda P. Garcia and husband, Tito, of Austin, Bernice C. Licon and husband, Martin, of Yoakum, Dora Cardona of Houston, and Aniyah Yvette "Nana" Galindo of Cuero; 12 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Pilar Ruiz Jr. and Rene Ruiz.

A private family service was held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.  Burial followed at Hillside Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers include Aniyah Yvette "Nana" Galindo, Priscilla Gamez, Raul Gamez Jr., Kingston W. Nordstrom, Martin Licon, Bernice C. Licon, Ricardo Pena, and  Julian Isiaiah Recio.
