Talbert Wendel, 74, passed away Wednesday, October 07, 2015. He was born September 22, 1941 to the late Victor and Regina Kornfuehrer Wendel.
He graduated from Cuero High School in 1960. Talbert served six years in the National Guard and retired from Union Carbide with 35 years service. He established Wendel Sandblasting in 1976 which is still in operation today.
Talbert is survived by his wife Jo Ann Hoefling Wendel, son Gordon Wendel (Jean) of Mission Valley, son Jason Wendel (Michelle) of Meyersville, daughter Molly Meyer of Meyersville, stepdaughter Lisa Hilliard (Walter) of Victoria, sister Patty Thieme of Victoria, sister-in-law Burma Wendel, brother-in-law Bill Obsta (Kim), and mother-in-law Lillian Obsta. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Rian Wendel, Matti Wendel, Kerilyn Wendel, Brooke Wendel, Mason Meyer, Madison Meyer and step grand-daughter Emma Hilliard.
Talbert was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Karen Obsta Wendel, brother Fred Arlen Wendel, brother-in-law Roland Thieme, father-in-laws Francis Obsta, Carl Hoefling, and mother-in-law Otha Hoefling.
Visitation will be held Friday, October 9, 2015 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm with a rosary to follow at Freund Funeral Home in Cuero. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Meyersville. Interment will follow at the St. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery in Meyersville.
Pallbearers are Kevin Thieme, Kenneth Thieme, Collin Wendel, Eddie Hardage, Mike Spann and Frank Tuch. Honorary pallbearers are Clem Waskow, Clifford Haun, Dan Pittman, Victor Warwas, Wayne Stevens, Walter Hilliard, Tracey Foerster, Mark Wendel, Alan Wendel, Karl Wendel, all grandchildren and employees of Wendel Sandblasting.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church building fund and Hospice of South Texas.
