Obituary
HALLETTSVILLE - Vernice E. Luthy, age 92, formerly of Cuero, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at Hallettsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center with her daughter and son by her side. She was born December 13, 1919 in Alice, Texas to Lee Davis and Ozelle Wilson White. She was a clerk in the DeWitt County Clerk's office for over 20 years until her retirement.
Vernice graduated from Alice High School in 1937. She attended business school in San Antonio, Texas, and eventually met and married Walter Luthy. After retiring, Vernice was a homemaker and a wonderful cook. She was especially known for her fried chicken and pecan pie. She meticulously kept an organized home and always kept in touch with family. Her interests included family, cooking, gardening, sewing and reading. She devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family members, including her husband and mother.
She is survived by sons, Sidney W. Kent and wife, Lori of Honolulu, Hawaii; Grayson L. Sellers and wife, Cynthia of Los Fresnos, Texas; daughter, Virginia Warzecha and husband, Marvin of Hallettsville. She is also survived by ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Her loving family will miss her greatly. Although she was so tiny and frail, she gave us all such courage and hope, and reminded us of the preciousness of life.
She was predeceased by her husband, Walter F. (Slim) Luthy; and siblings: Grayson White, Douglas White and Herschel White, and Donna McGibeney.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Noah Sellers, Brandon Wolter, Benjamin Pena, Dustin Sellers, and Steven Warzecha; and extended family/friend, Johnny Rangel. Honorary pallbearer will be grandson, Joshua Kent.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 3, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Cotman, First Presbyterian Church of Cuero, presiding.
