Louise Thompson passed away in Cuero, Texas on Monday, September 14, 2009 at the age of 94. She was born on August 20, 1915 in Temple, Texas to Frederick 'Fritz'
Wilheim Rosenthal and Clara Elizabeth (Knebel) Rosenthal.
Louise Rosenthal grew up in San Angelo, Texas and graduated from San Angelo High
School. She later attended and graduated from P&S Hospital in Temple, Texas as a nurse and received her RN in 1944. Louise married Gordon E. "Whitey" Thompson on Christmas Day in 1939. They lived in San Antonio, Texas until they moved to Cuero in 1947. While Gordon had a number of jobs in Cuero, Louise went to work at the Cuero Hospital where she had the pleasure and honor of working with and for the late Dr A.J. Bohman. She was a surgical nurse, led a nurses training class and had numerous other responsibilities. Later she joined the Bohman Clinic where she worked with Drs Bohman, Hall, Prather and Reese. Louise was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Cuero since moving to Cuero. She was involved in a number of committees and circles there. She was elected as Elder Emeritus a few years back. She also devoted time for the community. She was a member of the Cuero High Band
Booster Club. In the 1950s she worked many hours with the rest of the Booster Club to
help raise funds for band uniforms. Later and more recently in life she worked at the
CAMAL House on West Main in Cuero.
She leaves behind three sons; Vernon Thompson, of Tampa, Florida, Steve Thompson
and his wife Tori, of Houston, Texas and David Thompson and his wife Jo, of Princeton,
Texas. She also leaves behind six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Especially close to her were here grand-daughters Clarissa Thompson, Vernon's daughter, Michelle Michaelsen, David's daughter and Leah Thompson, Steve and Tori's daughter. Their love for Gramma was deep and powerful. Louise was a mentor to them and loved them dearly.
Her loving husband, Gordon E. "Whitey" Thompson, preceded her in death on March 14, 1988. Also preceding her were her parents, six sisters and three brothers.
There will be visitation on Thursday, September 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Freund Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday, September 18, 10 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church in Cuero. There will be a short graveside service following in Hillside Cemetery.
