Vivian Thomas (Gardner) was born on March 2, 1940 to the late Ira Sr. and Leola Gardner of Cuero. Vivian accepted and professed her love of Jesus Christ at an early age and united with Brothers Chapel United Methodist Church and later with the First United Methodist Church in Cuero.
Vivian attended Daule High School and later went on to Victoria College and earned her CNA and Medication certification. She was employed by Cuero Community Hospital and then went on to work for Mrs. J. Carter Thomas as a caregiver and Margaret (Missy) Thomas for many years until her health declined. Vivian married the love of her life Tommy Thomas on December 24, 1964. She was a wonderful wife and mother of nine children, five daughters, four sons and the proud grandmother of twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son Ernest Thomas and daughter Cynthia Thompson; sister, Julia Beal; brothers, James Gardner, Ira Gardner Jr.; and son-in-law Edwin Strait.
Vivian leaves to cherish her memory, husband Tommy Thomas of Cuero; daughters, Yvonne Gardner -Strait of Cuero, Gwendolyn Monroe (Randy) of Pflugerville, Tommie Williams (Edwin) of Round Rock and Angela Dowell (James) of Pflugerville; sons, Jerald Thomas of Cuero, Ervin Thomas (Tia) of Katy, Marlin Thomas (Tameka) of Manor; son- in-law, Bobby Thompson of Victoria; sister, Angelene Campbell of Cuero; brother, Robert C. Gardner Sr. of Yoakum; sister-in-law, Lucy Wimbish (David) of Cuero; brother-in law, Javance (Pokey) Thomas of Cuero; grandchildren, Cedric Strait, Patrick Cates, Rachell Cates, Chanel Cates, Paige Monroe, Destiny Williams, Gabrielle Williams, Morgan Thomas, Evin Thomas, Ryan Thomas, Braylon Thomas, Zane Thomas and twelve great-grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins extended family and friends; special friends, Josephine Thompson and Margaret (Missy) Thomas.
Visitation will be Friday, March 25, 2016 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. Services will be Saturday March 26, 2016 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, Reverend Lawrence Roy officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
