Volus Lynn Bowman, 88, of Cuero passed away Friday, September 16, 2011. He was born December 20, 1922 in Burkburnett to the late Claude L. and Grace Mae Hobdy Bowman and lived there until joining the Navy in 1942. He married Barbara Brooks on April 30, 1949 in Corpus Christi. He served as a radioman on board ship during World War II. After completing his naval service he completed cabinet making school and worked as a carpenter and contractor's foreman until his retirement. Many say he was the best finish carpenter in New Mexico and Texas, where he and his loving wife raised their children. Volus was a faithful Christian who honored Christ with a lifestyle of integrity and honesty. Volus served as a deacon in the Baptist church in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Taft, Texas, and Cuero, Texas. In all these churches he served on the building committees and did much of the building himself.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Carol Joyce Kavakos; his grandson, Karsten Dylan Kavakos; and two brothers, Billy Neal Bowman and Clovis Glenn Bowman.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Brooks Bowman of Meyersville; his son, Thomas Lynn Bowman (Paula) of Plano; his daughter, Beverly Jean Hill (Dale) of Meyersville; five granddaughters, Elizabeth (Lissa) DeCarrie of Pasadena, Diana Lauren Kavakos of Philadelphia, PA, Claudia Lucinda Quintero of Beeville, Bethany Maria Quintero of Ft Worth, and Sarah Joyce Bowman of Plano; one grandson, Matthew Lynn Bowman of Plano; and one sister, Claudia Mae Kirby of Sierra Vista, AZ, as well as beloved nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
His presence will be missed more than words can tell.
Services will be held Tuesday, September 20, 2011, 10 a.m., at First Baptist Church in Cuero with Dr. Glenn Robertson officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
