Walter Joe Wilke, 86, of Cuero passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2023.  He was born January 25, 1937 to the late Richard and Olga Grauke Wilke in Gonzales.  Walter married Patsy Baker on July 20, 1962 in Cuero.  He was a tire man and was a cook for an offshore oil rig.  Walter served in the National Guard and was a devoted member of the American Legion.  He loved being a cowboy and was a trail rider for both, Old Chisholm and Rawhide Riders. A man with quick wit and a unique sense of humor, Walter kept everyone smiling wherever he went.  Walter was the life of the party, always ready for a cold beer and some good dancing.  His favorite saying was "Give Me A Beer" and was up on his feet anytime Waltz Across Texas or Seven Spanish Angels were played.

Walter is survived by his children, Shana Wilke Olguin of Spring, Shawn Wilke and wife, Debra, of Cuero, Shane Wilke and wife, Renee, of Cuero, Randy Baker and wife, Jackie, of Kenedy, and Darryle Wilke and wife, Lisa, of Oklahoma; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years, Patsy Wilke; sisters, Emma P. Wilke Breitschopf, Hattie Wilke Breitschopf, Rosie Mae Alex, Olga Wilke Schumann, Alvina Wilke Schneider, and Annie M. Wilke Bond; and brothers, Gottlieb R. Wilke, Gus Wilke, and Edward Richard Wilke.

Visitation will be Monday, July 24, 2023 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home.  A funeral service will be Tuesday, July 25, 2023, 10 a.m., at Freund Funeral Home with Rev. Marcellus Wesley officiating.  Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Cuero.  A time of food and fellowship will be held at the American Legion from 12 to 2 pm.

Pallbearers include Jessie Olguin, Wacey Wilke, Xander Olguin, Dale Schneider, Kenneth Seals Sr., and Kenneth Flessner.
