Walter R. Wolf, 94, of Cuero passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2013. He was born June 27, 1919 in the Green Dewitt community in DeWitt County to the late Albert C. and Julia (Rapp) Wolf. He was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church of Arneckeville. He was a charter member of the church Brotherhood as well as the Men in Mission group. He additionally served the congregation as its President, Treasurer, Secretary as well as a member of the Sunday School staff and was the leader of the evangelism committee. Walter loved music and sang in the church choir for 70 years.
Walter was closely connected with raising cattle, chickens for commercial eggs, and turkeys. Additionally, he operated a Grocery, mercantile, and feed store in Arneckeville for a number of years. He later worked as a certified appraiser of the Tax Appraisal office and in 1974 he was elected as the DeWitt County Treasurer and served in that capacity until his retirement in 1989. Walter was the Postmaster of Arneckeville for a number of years as well as the Trustee for the Arneckeville school. He was a member of Texas Association of County treasurers, the National Association of County Treasurers, Southwestern Appraisal, and was a National Association County Treasurer award recipient. He was also a Farm Bureau director. Hochheim Prairie director, and a member of the Lions Club and TPA.
Walter is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy (Gibson) Wolf; son, Byron (Deanna) Wolf; son, Doug (Gwenn) Wolf; Step Son; Richard (Barbara) Gibson, Step Daughter, Sammie (Tommy) Shelton. Other survivors include a brother, Harold Wolf, sister, Adeline (Wolf) Thamm and sister, Ida Marie (Wolf) Schultz. Walter loved to visit with grandchildren; Michael Wolf, Christine (Wolf) Hoover, Lynn Wolf Jr., Timothy (Michele)Wolf, Stephanie (Wolf) Kates, Kaitlin Leck, Zachary Gibson, and Justin and Cody Kubicek. In addition, Walter has a number of nieces and nephews.
Walter's great-grandchildren include; Paul, Amanda, and Thomas Wolf; Madison, Landon, and Colton Hoover; Lindsay and Carson Wolf; Taylor, Avery, and Eleni Wolf, and Sean Cass; Madelyn, Mackenzie, and Bo Kates; and Celeste and Colton Kubicek.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Ida Mary (Reinecke) Wolf; and brothers, Eugene Armin, and Ralph Wolf.
Visitation will be held Thursday, October 17, 2013 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. Services will be held Friday, October 18. 2013, 10:30 a.m. at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Arneckeville with Pastor Barbara Beale officiating. Internment will follow at Zion Arneckeville Cemetery.
Pallbearers include: Michael Wolf, Chris Hoover, Lynn Wolf Jr., Timothy Wolf, Matt Kates, Chris Schultz, and Gary Wolf.
Honorary Pallbearers include: Wayne Wolf, Melvin Wolf, Stephen Thamm, Kaitlin Leck, Justin Kubicek, Cody Kubicek, and Zachary Gibson.
