Weldon Earl Buchhorn Sr., 86, of Cuero, passed away Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009 in Victoria. He was born Sept. 24, 1923, in Lindenau, to the late William J. Buchhorn and Augusta Ortman Buchhorn of Lindenau. He was a postman with the U.S. Postal Service. He was a U.S. Navy WWII veteran, serving in the Pacific. He was a member of the American Legion Post 0003 of Cuero for 65 years, VFW Post 3972 of Cuero for over 40 years, and lifetime member of Lindenau Rifle Club, Knights of Columbus, and St. Michael's in Cuero.

He is survived by his wife, Carrie Mae Buchhorn (married on Sept. 4, 1947 in Westhoff); daughters, Darlene Goehring of Victoria, Carolyn B. Conner of Richmond, and Laurie Metting of Cuero; sons, Michael Buchhorn and Arlen Buchhorn, both of Victoria; brother, Leslie Buchhorn of Victoria; 24 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his son, Weldon Buchhorn Jr.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today, Dec. 2, 2009, with a rosary to be recited from 6 to 7:30 p.m., at Freund Funeral Home in Cuero. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009 at St. Michael's Church in Cuero. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens in Cuero. Father Kirby Hlavaty will be officiating.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Warren Buchhorn, Jeremy Buchhorn, Joshua Buchhorn, Jordan Buchhorn, Kenneth Buchhorn, Henry Buchhorn, Thomas Deihl, and Timothy Diehl. Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters: Amanda Repka, Bridgette Schutz, Irene Goehring, Carrie Goehring, Christina Kenne, Julie Buchhorn, Veronica Buchhorn; Michelle Tomanec, Teresa Hiles, and Lacie Metting.
