Obituary

Wilburn George Stall of Cuero passed away at home on Friday, January 16, 2015 surrounded by his family. He was born October 2, 1926 in Ben Arnold, Texas to the late George Stall and Amanda Boettcher Stall. He married Barbara Ann Bethke on October 26, 1952 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Cuero and was known to his friends as Willie. He honorably served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. He was employed as an auto mechanic until his retirement. Willie was a lifelong member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. He was an active member of VFW Post 3972, having served as Post Commander. He enjoyed working with his hands, gardening and traditional folkways preservation. At his urging, he and his family were active participants in the Institute of Texan Cultures Folklife Festival for 30 years. He greatly enjoyed music. He enjoyed driving a buggy with his horse, Pinto, in local parades. He also trained two yoke of oxen to pull a covered wagon in the Cuero Turkey Trot and other local festival parades. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years; children, Judy Jones (Bill) of League City, Gladys Zeinert (Bobby) of Macdona, George Stall (Robbie) of Morales, Wilma Reedy (Richard) of Cuero, Annette Meyer (Ray) of Yoakum, Henry Stall (Jackie) of Cuero, Ruby Slater (Ken) of Sealy, Alfred Stall (Jamie) of Belton, and Nadine Van Beveren (Morres) of Victoria; 17 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Bobbie Ray Stall (Carolyn) of East Bernard; sisters-in-law, Billie Stall and Angeline Stall; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Herbert Stall and Elvin Stall; and sister, Doris Tucker. Visitation will be held Monday, January 19, 2015 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. Services will be Tuesday, January 20, 2015, 10 a.m., at Freund Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Thompson officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery. His grandsons, Raymond Meyer, III, Travis Stall, Patrick Zeinert, Thomas Reedy, Christopher Reedy, Matthew Stall, Benjamin Stall, Theodore Stall, Jacob Stall, and Isaac Stall will see as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Amanda Joiner, Lacie Otto, Marianne Schmidt, Emilie Pena, Margaret Soulsby-Monroy Elizabeth (Annie) Stall, and Shelbie Van Beveren. The family thanks Hospice of South Texas for their loving care and support, especially Valerie, Vanessa, Jennifer, and Bernice.
